26. Learn how to Quilt Cyber Spiral, Design #386

It's time to learn another new design! Let's go back to the spiral variations we were working on earlier this month and this time try mixing in a bit of Circuit Board to create Cyber Spiral!

The one thing to keep in mind with this design is to keep your lines straight and 90 degree angles, it's often easier to work along a straight line. The line is a visual reference you can check occasionally to make sure your lines are running either parallel or perpendicular. The only area this rule gets "off" is with the spirals, which add a nice bit of chaos to the mix!

Difficulty Level - Beginner.

Design Family - Intermediate

Just like with Hot Hot Spiral and Wiggle Wiggle Spiral, all of the designs in this little series will work great big or small. I actually thing this Cyber Spiral is the perfect design to use for a little boy or man quilt. It just strikes me as slightly more masculine. What do you think?

Let's go quilt!

  1. Hey I noticed you use gloves. is that for a good grip? have you ever heard of the octo hoop and if so, what do you think of it? I have dabbled in free motion but it is just hard to me.

  3. For me it seems to be a Inka-Style! Very nice! :)

  4. Hi Michelle - Yep, the gloves are for grip. If I don't wear them the quilt just slides right under my hands with no control. I haven't heard of the octo hoop particularly, and I don't usually like hoops. I find they just get in my way and it's easier to use gloves. That's just me though!

  5. Leah, are you still using a Janome Horizon? Just love your videos and have learned so much from you! Thanks.

  6. Hai! Thanks for your generosity for teaching quilting for us. I have learned very slowly due to time limitation. However, I want to get the type of foot you are using here. Where can I get it and what is the real name for it.

    Thanks again

  7. Hi Felicia - The foot in the video is only compatible with the Janome Horizon 8900 and it comes with that machine when you purchase it. I hope that helps!
