Day 354 - Railroad Tracks

We're chugging along with more and more designs this week! Let's move forward with a simple design that can make a big impact on your next quilt. This is Railroad Tracks:

I've been posting new designs daily this week so it almost feels like the start of the project when I posted a new design every single day. A small piece of me wishes I'd continued posting daily so I'd have been done with this project more than a year ago, but another piece of me knows that I might not have come up with many of these designs, might not have tried certain ideas, had I not had more time to work with.

Eh, it's a moot point anyway, but I have to say, I'm ready to get this core 365 DONE! Let's learn how Railroad Tracks works and see it stitched in a 4 inch block:

Difficulty Level - Beginner. This design is super easy and super fun! Swirl around your quilting space with a huge, wiggly stippling design. You'll want to make this really big because the second step is to go back over that line with boxy line that fills the remaining space.

Design Family - Foundational. Your starting wiggly line forms your foundation with this design. This makes the design even easier because once you get that foundation set, then all you have to do is stitch right over it again. It's a bit less to think about and focus on, which always makes for an easier experience.

Directional Texture - All Directions. Make sure to bend and wiggle your tracks all over your quilt for a neat design that seems to be moving in all directions at once.

Suggestions for Use - Do you have a train crazed kid in your life? This will make for the perfect design to stitch in the sashing around train blocks! Just set your foundation with the starting wiggly line, then make your train tracks as big as you like so they fill up the remaining space, but keep your quilt cuddly and soft.

Let's go Quilt!

  1. Great design for a masculine quilt!

  2. I have been considering making a quick quilt with "Thomas the Tank Engine" fabric for my great nephew, age 4 who loves trains, especially "Thomas". This would be perfect (large scale) to quilt it with! One more nudge towards going ahead with one more Christmas quilt!

  3. I think this is one of my favorite designs by you, partially because it is so unique.
