Awesome Anniversary Trip

Ah! Josh and I just got back last night from the most awesome anniversary trip. We headed down to Savannah, GA on Thursday and enjoyed three days walking around the historic district, eating great food, and enjoying the awesome Quilt Fest Savannah quilt show too.

A helpful attendant at the Savannah Tour of Homes snapped this picture of us together. We attended the tour on Thursday and walked through seven homes around Forsyth Park. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take photos of the homes or inside, but we were able to capture pictures of this gorgeous live oak:

This tree is over 300 years old! It was so big they ran cables up to a lightning rod at the top so the tree would be protected from lightning.

Downtown Savannah is quite simply the most inspiring, beautiful place I've ever seen. There is loads of ironwork, beautiful houses, and massive live oaks around every corner.

This is a picture of the riverfront area. These massive buildings are over one hundred years old and were once warehouses for cotton and other goods that were shipped out of the port. Now these are filled with little shops, hotels, and amazing restaurants.

Did I mention we like to eat?! I think this is our favorite hobby after quilting, and we're always willing to go out of our way for a great meal. In Savannah we found many unique places like The Coffee Fox which served a Affogato - espresso poured over a cup of ice cream, and Goose Feathers Cafe which served a `Ecrousant - a combination croissant and donut which was absolutely delicious!

We had so much fun taking tours, finding great places to eat, and wandering around Savannah without ever once getting back in our car. The icing on the cake was winning two ribbons at Quilt Fest Destination Savannah!

I also finally got to try out the machine I've been dying to try for more than 6 months - the Juki 22000 table mounted longarm:

This is SUCH an awesome machine and the show was running such a good deal that we placed an order and will be getting a 22000 sometime next week! I'm so excited and can't wait to shoot new videos on this big guy.

All in all, it was the best 10th anniversary trip ever! Josh and I had an amazing time, totally stepped away from business and just had fun the way we did on our honeymoon - traveling to a pretty place and eating lots of good food. If you're into the same things, Savannah, GA is definitely a place you need to check out.

Let's go quilt,

  1. Oh, that;s awesome! I went to Tybee Island on a business trip, so drove through Savanna. Have always wanted to go back since and check out the old homes.

This is funny, because that's what hubby and I like to do on trips AND we were also away this weekend for an anniversary getaway. Great minds! :D

  2. You bought the Juki! That is so cool.

I think you should suggest to Craftsy a class on how to make a quilted jacket. I'd love one like yours to wear to shows, but am a bit tentative to just set out and try to do it.

  3. Happy Anniversary and it looks like you had a fantastic time. Congratulations on the well deserved ribbons and what a great Anniversary present for you both!

  4. What a joyous post...such a pleasure to read! Also, you look beautiful, and I love your clothes! The long-sleeved lace is lovely, and your jacket shows off your quilting so nicely!

  5. So glad to hear about your trip and really enjoyed hearing and seeing your reports from the quilt show. Congrats on the two ribbons, well deserved. Savannah is a great city, I lived there in 1974, before it was "cool" 😉

  6. Can't wait to hear about the Juki. I tested one last week over at Stonecrest in South Charlotte. It was very nice and I liked the fact that it can also be put on a frame in the future if so desired.

  7. OMG.....I just got my Juki this week....I ordered it at Road to is a dream machine for me, and I know that you will love it. I got this model because it would be mountable on a frame if I wanted. Enjoy!!!!!

  8. Happy Anniversary! Looks like you had a fantastic time. I can't wait to hear about the Juki 22000. Looking forward to meeting you next week in New Hampshire!

  9. Happy Anniversary and what a great trip that must have been, visiting that beautiful city and enjoying the delicious food! Congratulations on your so well deserved ribbons and the wonderful Juki! You look so happy testing it! I'm sure it will inspire you to do even more of your fabulous quilting!

  10. Wow, what a gorgeous place, just came back from my Easter holiday from the South Island, where our daughter lives so caught up with the grand children, had an amazing time and the views there are to die for, gorgeous little coffee shops and amazing views. The town is called Queenstown in New Zealand and the little village of Wanaka was amazing as well! Hope to visit Savanah later

  11. Now that you have had your new Juki QVP for a few months, how do you like it? Have you posted an update yet?
